Knowing chances of touristic explotation and see wildlife animals
Reserve Jelen is main wildlife reserve in Slovenia. Here people learn about wildlife animals through watching, hunting anf fotohunting. This is a good practices which present how attracting many visitors away from the main road.Special offer is bear observation in its natural habitat. Time of departure depends on the length of the day in the time of sightseeing. Sightseeing is carried out in the company of a hunter and from high lookout.
Evidence of success
Biological/biodiversity values: Masun lies 1025 m above the sea level in a wonderful environment of the Sneznik woods. This is the crossroads between the municipalities Ilirska Bistrica, Cerknica, Pivka and the Loska dolina. It used to be a predominantly forester's settlement, however the beauty of the intact nature and clean air attract increasingly more tourists from near and far. Pivka is located in the underdeveloped region of Slovenia on the edge of Javorniki - Sneznik woods, one of the biggest forested regions in Europe. This area is also famous for rich wildlife.
Visual impact and recreational value: Multimedia presentations.
Cultural heritage: In Mašun house in bear's room are some posters, big bears and objects which testify of the life of our biggest carnivore. Opportunity for understanding life and the ecological requirements of the brown bear is very important for people and for protected species. Here are also renovated remains of the castle, THE HUNTING MANSION SCHÖNBURG. Here you could spend a night in one of its towers.
Environmental impact: On Snežniško-javorškem highkarst mountains dominate dinaric fir-beech highmountain beech forests which are home for a large number of plant and animal species even very rare and protected. In good quality reflects careful, sistematic and professional work of many generation of foresters and forest owners.
Economic viability:
Special offer is bear observation in its natural habitat. Time of departure depends on the length of the day in the time of sightseeing. Sightseeing is carried out in the company of a hunter and from high lookout. The possibility that we see the bear is more than 90%. In case that we do not see the bear, we return half of your paid amount for transport and bear sightseeing. Maximum number of participants is 2 - 4. In case of more participants we have to form more groups. Price of sightseeing with transportation and escort: 150- 200 EUR.
Transferability:
Practice is transferable, specially in countries with a lot of woods rich with flora and fauna.
