Östergötland County Administrative Board

The County Administrative Board of Östergötland (CAB), Sweden, is the National Government’s representative authority in the county. CAB has a coordinating national function with supervisory responsibilities. The general mission of CAB is to ensure that government policies are enacted at the regional level. CAB has several departments ranging from economical development to nature conservation working together in an inter-sectoral way. CAB is in charge of environmental protection and nature conservation in the region. This includes issuing permits, supervision and providing information. It also involves the establishment and management of protected areas mainly nature reserves, including the facilitation for visitors. CAB holds the county experts on rural development and environmental issues. It is also in charge of regional policy making thereby having a strong influence on sustainable rural development.

CAB is a link between people and municipalities on one hand, and between the government, parliament and national authorities on the other, it thereby has a unique position and capacity to influence local and regional policies and processes.

Till June 2011 there was one more region participating in the project – Veliko Tarnovo Municipality from Bulgaria.
